Important Note: Before making any Google Chrome changes stated in this article, it is important to have the latest version of Citrix Receiver installed on your operating system. Citrix Receiver for Windows 3.1 or higher is required for use with Google Chrome.
Citrix Receiver 4.8 Download
If you are experiencing issues with Citrix Receiver for Windows, complete the following three step procedure:Run the tool (refer to Receiver Clean-Up Utility) to clean-up a corrupt or previous installation of Citrix Receiver.
Note: If using Windows, check in Control Panel > Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs that the Citrix Receiver software is no longer present.
Restart your computer.
Solution 1 - Enable Chrome to Open ICA Files Automatically
Enable Google Chrome to automatically open the launch ICA files. When the launch.ica file downloads in Google Chrome, click the drop-down list for the file in the download bar and select Always Open Files of This Type.
Solution 2 - Disable the Citrix ICA Client Plugin (Only applicable to older versions of chrome)
After completing the preceding procedure, complete the following steps:
On Google Chrome, go to Settings.
Click Show advanced settings..
Under Privacy, click Content settings...
Under Plug-ins, click Disable individual plug-ins..
Click Disable for Citrix ICA Client.
Notes:
If Disable option is not available, confirm that the latest version of Citrix Receiver is installed for your operating system. For the latest version of Citrix Receiver, click here.
If you are unable to see the 'Disable individual plug-ins' link, open chrome://plugins from the addressbar.
Problem Cause
The Citrix web plug-in for Google Chrome is enabled. From Google Chrome 13.x version, the Citrix web plug-in is enabled by default. In some cases, this can cause a failure of ICA files during launch. This feature is a part of Google Chrome and is independent of Citrix Receiver. This is NOT part of the Citrix Receiver installation and works in the same manner as Internet Explorer plug-ins, but does not automatically update. We bought our shiny new Citrix install last summer. They were always pushing how easy and flexible it would be to throw out cheap dumb devices like Chromebooks/thin clients/etc. So we said sure that sounds great, and spent six figures on the hardware/software/licensing. After rolling out the servers we began to deploy Chrome devices to our users who immediately complained that audio either never works, or works only for a while at the beginning of the session.
I've been troubleshooting and Citrix support is completely useless. They are telling me that I have to 'enable audio support' for my clients using Google Admin policy. Ignoring the fact that it is not a constant issue, but an intermittent one. I've configured receiver exactly as they have documented (and they very clearly DO NOT mention anywhere in any KB that you have to specifically enable audio in your config to make it work, or even mention enabling audio at all). I made the change they asked for and of course it did fuck all. Now I am being told to 'review my configuration according to the Citrix Receiver for Chrome KB' and that there isn't much else they can do for Chromebooks. So frustrating.
Does anyone else have similar issues?
To be specific, the sound device completely fails to work when the error occurs. If you go into audio devices, and select the audio device, and choose play test tone, you get an error saying 'Failed to play test tone'. This is not a volume slider issue. Our Chrome devices are managed and set as public sessions with Citrix Receiver installed from the Google web store and configured through admin policy. Our environment is almost entirely Server 2016 based. The server side error they are getting is: RTPSession::Initialize RTP Audio not supported on client. Exiting..','
It does happen intermittently. Sometimes I struggle to duplicate it all day long and some days I can duplicate it the moment I log in. And the built-in Chrome browser works completely normally when playing any sort of audio. It's crystal clear that it's a problem with Citrix Receiver itself.
Which really seems like an issue with Citrix Receiver itself, and not a technical support issue.
